Janie, OMG, I just read you adviced someone not to vaccinate their older dog or use chemical flea and products. What’s the alternative?I just vaccinated my 13 1/2 yr old Maltese with the flea and ticks shot! Also, my original question on here was about the use of corticosteroids. She weighs 5 lbs and the vet just put her on a short term treatment of steroids because she has problems breathing. She’s hemorrhage’s through her nose on several occasions, and he says the X rays on her chest are not normal but worrisome. I’ve known him for a very long time, and I trust him. He sent him to a specialist to do some type of “cleansing” of the lungs which would require to put her under general anesthesia. Thruthfully, I couldn’t even afford any of this, as much as it’s hurting me. My Princess is my life. PLEASE HELP!While he has been off of the steroids now for almost 4 months, his personality changed he became skittish and jittery, he is still over weight he used to be SUPER fit and trim – he’s super “wide” with skinny legs, his hair has thinned, and he continues to get skin infections. Still to this day, we are treating the “cough”, which is a function of the bronchitis, but now with a bronchial inhaler, but we are also treating his airway and lungs to keep them healthy with. That said, I’m still not comfortable with the number of meds that he is on.
